THE SHORT VERSION
- Foreign passports are supported, but identity verification may be automatic, manual or station-assisted.
- The document used to buy the ticket is part of station entry and boarding.
- Payment and collection conditions can vary, so retain the official booking record and a fallback.
Create the passenger identity
Use China Railway 12306's English workflow and enter the passport details exactly. If automatic verification fails, follow the passport-image or station-office path described by the official service.
Book the correct station
Large cities can have several stations far apart. Match the full station name to the route and save it in Chinese before departure.
Travel with the booking passport
Keep the original identity document used for the purchase accessible for entry and boarding. Arrive with enough time to solve an unfamiliar gate or verification issue without rushing.
