Name the job
Decide whether you need data only, a local number, tethering, more than one device or simply a short window at arrival. A plan that suits a data-only phone may not suit a traveller who needs calls, hotspot access or a dual-SIM setup.
Read the exact plan terms
Airalo's China support note describes international routing for its named eSIM offer. Treat that as a provider statement for the applicable product and date, not as independent testing or a guarantee for another plan, device or traveller.
Plan activation before take-off
Check that the device is unlocked and compatible, note when the validity clock starts and save the provider's support route. Do not remove a working home SIM until the travel line is installed and the fallback is clear.
Keep a quiet backup
Download the addresses and booking records you need for the first day. Retain roaming, hotel Wi-Fi or a second approved connection option when the itinerary makes a dead zone costly.
